A Natural Boulder Retaining Wall Project in Ramsey, MN

This is what years of Minnesota winters do to treated timber retaining walls. The wood was rotting, the walls were failing, and the parking pad alongside the garage was uneven and areas were washing out. This Ramsey homeowner needed more than a patch job — the whole setup needed to come out and be rebuilt the right way.
Our Kubota excavator made quick work of the old timber walls. We were able to pull out the rotting timbers cleanly and efficiently.
Once the old timber walls were out, the real work began - rebuilding the parking pad grade, bringing in natural boulders, and building the steps to the backyard.
The steps lead down from the parking pad to a clean, level area where we finished things off with fresh sod — turning what was an afterthought of a backyard corner into a functional, polished space. The natural boulders look like they belong there. That's the goal on every project!
The finished product. Natural boulders replaced the old rotting timber walls along the parking pad, and the grade was rebuilt to drain properly and hold up under the weight of a car or truck. The difference between what was here before and what you see now is night and day — a retaining wall system that's built to last decades, not rot and fail in ten years.
